“2 + 2” students celebrate graduation

Chongqing University-UBC first "2 + 2" joint undergraduate students graduated.

On May 29,2019, the first CQU-UBC "2 + 2" joint undergraduate students ushered in their graduation ceremony at UBC University in Canada. All the first graduates choose to continue their studies and pursue postgraduate studies in overseas universities. They have received admission letters from the top 20 universities in the world, such as Imperial College of technology, Federal Institute of technology in Lausanne, Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkin University etc. The sucess of the joint program has been widely acknowledged by domestic and oversea universities and society, and has gained a good reputation.

These students not only study hard, but also pay attention to the balanced development of all aspects. Xiaodong Hu obtained the skiing teaching qualification while studying in UBC and will go to Imperial College for further study after graduation. Bo Li did part-time job while studying, increasing his social experience. After graduation, he went to study in McMaster University, one of Canada's six famous universities. Hekun Kuang achieved excellent results and received offers from University of California Berkeley, Johns Hopkins University, Cornell University, Northwestern University and Federal Institute of technology in Lausanne, Switzerland.

"2 + 2" students teaching in UBC small class in English

 

CQU-UBC materials "2 + 2" joint undergraduate program was jointly set up by the Department of materials engineering of University of British Columbia (UBC) of Canada and the college of materials science and engineering of Chongqing University in order to improve the quality of undergraduate education and provide students with diversified learning style and opportunities.

The program was jointly initiated by Professor Xiaoxu Huang, the Dean of the college of materials science and engineering, Chongqing University and Professor Warren Poole, Professor Rizhi Wang of UBC Department of materials engineering. The program was strongly supported by the Academic Affairs Office of Chongqing University and the school of Applied Science of UBC University.

 

 

The course of the project integrates the course characteristics of Chongqing University and UBC. The students studied in Chongqing University in the first two years, and the teaching language changed from Chinese and English Teaching in grade one to all English Teaching in grade two. All the English course was taught by "Bairen plan" Professors and teachers with overseas study and work experience, so as to improve the students' English level to ensure the teaching quality. Students will finish their study in UBC in Canada in the last two years, and qualified graduates will receive bachelor degrees both from UBC and CQU.
