Main Research areas

1.“Research on ring rolling with super-large diameter and difficult-to-deformation materials”. By exploring adaptive FEM model based on mechanics mechanism and VUAMP control model based on ABAQUS/Explicit, the adaptive control of the feeding strategy in ring rolling has been realized. The quantitative design of feeding interval can be achieved due to the establishment of quantitative design system of ring rolling process. The thermal-mechanical coupled model and stress release model have been constructed on the platform FORGE, by which the evolution of the residual stress and the effect of process parameters on the residual stress have been analyzed throughout the ring rolling process and heat treatment process thereafter. The flat ring and profile ring with super-large diameter have been rolled successfully cooperating with Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co. LTD, which helps the long March 5 carrier rocket lift the dream of exploring the vast universe.


2.Research on the surface morphology evolution and surface finish control of the workpiece in cold plastic deformation. To meet the requirement of the super-smooth surface must be obtained by plastic deformation in some special fields, such as the cold drawing of the waveguide tube with high precision, the surface morphology evolution due to the plastic deformation, friction and lubrication mechanism has been explored. Based on the mapping relationship between the surface roughness of the workpiece after the plastic deformation and the forming process, die design, the surface topography of the die and the billet, friction condition and the microscopic parameters of the billet, the closed-loop control system for the surface roughness of the workpiece in the plastic deformation has been constructed. Thus, the preparation method of the billet and the forming process can be determined to meet the requirement of the high surface quality of the workpiece in cold forming process.


3.Engineering plastic transmission system design & metal replacement industrialization" is based on the theory of transmission system design, combining with the characteristics of engineering plastic resin and the development of non-standard tooth profile design theory & optimization approach, conducts positive development based on system design and theoretical calculation; thus customized design for engineering plastic material based on the application requirements, enhancing the transmission efficiency and system reliability. With the non-standard design, it can reduce the product size with relatively large range, which could meet customer expectations for lightweight-design, energy and cost saving, due to the tooth shape shift and the involute modification.

Publications & Patents

More than 60 papers have been published in professional journals at home and abroad such as INT J MECH SCI, J MATER PROCESS TECH, COMP MATER SCI, INT J ADV MANUF TECH, INT J MATER FORM, WEAR, J MATER ENG PERFORM, ENG FAIL ANAL and Journal of Mechanical Engineering, among which more than 30 papers have been indexed by SCI and EI.


Five national invention patents have been authorized.
